Basically Western and Eastern. Westerns tend to be lighter, almost to white at times. I'm sure there are more, as it has a pretty large range.

There are a few morphs foating around. None but the "hypo" has been proven with any success. Breeders are still not sure if this is infact a morph rather than just a good lookin' line of blood. I think we will see much more from BHP's in the future, now that the albino was hatched. Here are a few of mine...

enjoy!!

Hi,
I have 2 morphs that I have proven genetic, axanthic and hypo.

derekroddy Oct 11, 2005 06:52 PM

Hey Paul, I was wondering about your axanthic. Didn't know you had proven it to be genetic. I also thought that was a "top secret" animal, Hahaha, that's why I didn't mention it in the post above. Good to know that you're working with it. When did you hatch them? I love to see some pic's.

Here's a couple of photos of my baby axanthics...

And a baby hypo...

I am very excited about these two morphs and look forward to gettings albinos to join them in the future.

Paul.

Both look neat. My female is over 7' and is an 04 hatch. Male is close. Boy, can they eat....

I have bred before with 18 month old black-heads, at that size you should give yours a go this coming season.
Paul.

Thanks, Paul. Someone else mentioned that you had done it. I intend to. My last black head was obtained from the Shed in Miami when it was around. It was a male, about 6.5' I think that was about 20 years ago. I put it on breeding loan to the Staten Island Zoo, but it died there about a year later. My current animals, while sizable, are not fat, just growing well, although they do seemed to have slowed down a bit, which I would expect. When do you try yours together? I was going to wait until the first of Nov.

That axanthic is outstanding!

I didn't know you could breed black heads at 18 months.

Westerns tend to be lighter is not completely accurate. Specimens from the Kimberly region in WA can be two-tone brown like an "eastern."
