HELP! found very badly hurt turtle!!!

Becky Jul 20, 2003 08:20 PM

I just found a baby painted turtle who is severely injured! It is about 3 inches long. I found it just lying there by the water, it did not try to move away. I noticed blood and took it home. Something has obviously tried to eat it. It's shell is very scratched up but the worst part is at least two of it's legs have a lot of skin hanging. The knees on both it's back legs are skinned and there's a cut on one front leg. It is very active now, seems to act fine just like my pet turtle, but it is still bleeding. I am going to find somewhere to take it tomorrow, either a vet or someone who deals with wild animals. But it's Sunday now so does anyone have suggestions on what I could do to help this poor little guy now?

I would take him out of the water and put him into something clean and dry until he stops bleeding. You could also try cleaning his cuts with iodine and applying a bacterial cream like polysporin if you have it. Try and find a vet that sees reptiles regularly.
