Is Marley odd??

LinsZoo Jul 20, 2003 08:39 PM

In an effort to keep Marley well hydrated we found out he liked the sprinkler, he tosses his head back and seems transported to another place. He'll stay for a good 20 minutes then forgage about. Usually stayong in the spray area. So is he odd.... Or does he really belong in Seattle?

Is Marley odd? No, I think he just likes the water. Are you lucky? You bet. Our Iggi still doesn't like water sprayed on her. I've lived for a while near Seattle. Marley would NOT like it there!

Gee, you'd think it would be kinda nice around there, always green and never too hot. Sounds awfully nice to me. Not hot for the iggys but lots of fresh greens!

Almost always overcast. Snow in the winter. The good point is the humidity is high most all the time. The moist air from the Pacific rolls in, hits the Olympic mountain range, and STOPS.

All of my Ig's LOVE to be sprayed, misted, showered upon, soaked, etc.... Given a good mist/shower, like Marley, they will often raise up on their front legs, throw their heads back, extend their dewlap and close their eyes as if to say "Ahhhh....that feels sooo good!"

They have a soaking pool in their outside enclosure and will often enter head first. . .shaking their heads and blowing bubbles while under the water (that's pretty cute). Lil' Girl will often fall asleep in the pool with her head resting on the side.
Happy soaking,
Rebecca

One of the reasons I ask this is this is COLD water. I don't know that I could sit 20 minutes under the spray. And in the tub I have found that Marley seems happier in a cool tub. We still do that daily and give him his massages and excersize those back legs. I am so sad when I think of winter and no sprinkler. Has anyone a good substitute activity for the winter? Maybe a shower?

I think all of us would just love a picture of Rebbecca sleeping with her head on the side of the pool! Could you post one?

What about adapting your showerhead to accomidate a hose and sprinkler system? im sure you can rig something up if he likes it that much. OR even one of those little hoses and shower heads for disabled people that fit over the faucet place it in the bottom of the tub so it shoots upward?

Thanks Heather. I have a doodad attached into the shower head now for bathing dogs, but you have to manually squeeze the trigger to get water. One of those jobbies that fit over the faucet won't work on mine. Already tried that. Guess we'll have to get creative! I hate to see him go all winter without his rainforest.... And winters are too dang long in Northern Illinois! :P
Thanks for the thoughts!

What about something tied on the trigger to keep it down? a shoe lace or a velcro strip used to hold cables together.

Kinda afraid it might start flipping around shooting water everywhere. Guess we could get a small pump like used in small ponds and set something up in the tub.... Or am I going overboard? LOL~
Maybe I'll just run the shower.....
But thank you!!

lol. Maybe getting a really big kiddie swimming pool and putting it in a room in your house and adding warm water to it when its time for him to play in the water?

LOL~ There would be some photo ops there for sure!! LOL. Dogs want to drink the water, cats dropping toys in and trying to grab Marleys tail.... I could see all the critters sitting in a circle around the pool.
Would end up like a scene from some weird comedy "There's something about Marley?"
