rack heating questions - long one

toobz Oct 11, 2005 06:21 AM

Its my first time using a rack to house my ball pythons and i have a few questions regarding heating and the settings on the thermostat. I recently acquired one of the freedom breeder compact racks heated by 3" flexwatt towards the back of the tub, and a johnsons thermostat. I taped the probe outside sticking on the flexwatt housing and set my desired temps. I do get worried though because i do not think it gets hot enough inside the tub. Was I correct in sticking the probe directly to the flexwatt housing outside the tub? and what temps should i set to provide adequate heating inside the tub? any input from freedom breeder users is greatly appreciated. thanks for the time!

Set the probe in a tray. You want to measure and control the heat in the tray not outside of the tray. I find it helpful to use a separate thermometer or two to check temps on the cool side of the box or tray.
