Not eating

liquidsound Oct 11, 2005 01:52 PM

I just got my little ladies from my friend last thursday and they aren't eating as of yet. I already know this is just a phase they go through but, I was just trying to see how long this phase is known to last.

The usual time is about a week. Since it's been a while now, you ought to take a fecal into the vet and get a check done for parasites. Parasites like coccidia can make them really tired and sluggish and lose their appetite. The best thing to do so they don't lose weight might be to feed them a special mixture by needle-less syrenge. The mixture is chicken or veal baby food, pedialyte, and calcium powder. You can also mix in something like jump start if you'd like.
Another less dangerous possibility could be that your leos may not like what you're feeding them. If you're giving them crickets, try switching to meal worms or vise versa. And actually the very best thing you can feed a leo is silk worms. They're known for getting the attention of finiky eaters and being better than both mealies and crix. Plus, if your leos are adults, they can eat the silkies as moths as well. The moths are flightless. Most petstores don't carry them though. You can get them from www.silkwormfarm.com or even cheaper at www.silkystogo.com but it depends on where you live.
