2 new small (well... maybe not that small!) terrestrial snakes on the way

caecilianman02 Oct 11, 2005 02:13 PM

2 new wonderful terrestrial snakes on the way. I have recently ordered the following two snakes. The first is out of general curiosity and captivation. The second is very important for my studies of Zambian herps, particularly around the South Luangwa region. Both have wonderful setups awaiting them.

0.0.1 Eastern mud snake

0.0.1 African brown house snake

Since I have posted this, I might as well post some updates:

The Scarlet King is approaching its one-year anniversary in my collection. It continues to feed willingly on f/t pinkies.

The Florida scarlet snake has now been here for over 5 months. It continues to grow, shed, and feed on my "super scarlet egg mixture".

Both ringnecks prepare to breed, and the Northern brown that I got last spring is still going strong.

It's a good year!

Oh African house snakes are neat. I like the males since smaller than the females but both look same I think other than size.
What air temp do you keep your scarlet kingsnake at?
I posted a scarlet king question below.
Thanks

Hey,

I keep the SK at a constant temperature of about 76 degrees farenheit. Hope this helps.

Dave, what was their secret way to get them to eat? Because they refused to tell me, and they are pretty much a scam. On one site(here) they were claiming they had some secret prey item the snake would eat. But on another site they were advertising the same snake as a siren eater. I hope they sent you a siren.

Hey,

I did not bother to ask for their "secret prey item". What was the url to the other website? That's wierd. Nonetheless, I've read up enough, and heard enough from Dan, so that I have my own feeding ideas. Thanks for the info.

Yes that helped. I set him up in a natural type 10 gallon set up with cyprus mulsch and flat pieces of slate rocks for him to hide under. I got the idea of the flat rocks from HerpHelmz site but didnt know the temp.
thanks
Rita
