Leaf Cham Care??

vegasbilly Oct 11, 2005 04:18 PM

Hi all,

Every year these little African gems are offered but its darn hard to find a good care sheet. Before I pull the trigger on some, can SOMEONE who has experience share the basics? I'm assuming moderate heat w/relatively high humidity based upon their habitat being close or on the jungle/forest floor w/fruit flies and pin heads being of suitable size. I did see a reference wherein UVB requirements were being debated a bit as to its necessity. I also keep Veilds, Jacksons, and Panthers, but these little creatures have tweaked my interest!

Thanks in advance to those who reply.

Bill

This is how I care for my brevs …

Temps in the low 70’s.
They can handle warmer temps in the mid 80’s for short spells – more/heavier misting is needed though. I sometimes need to use an AC – that tends to dry the air out, so I tend to mist more when using it.
A solid 10 degree drop in temps at night.
During the winter months when day time temps are around 68F and 55-58F at night, I offer heat by positioning a 40w bulb several inches away from the tank. The basking temp is usually 80F in that area. I have this bulb on a timer – so it only comes for a few hours in the morning.
I have used new Reptisun 5.0, 2.0, and used 5.0 bulbs with no apparent problems to the animals, plants like mini palms may get scorched from a new 5.0 bulb though. I think it’s important to offer UVA/B. Whether they need it or not, it’s what they get in nature.

I like to keep the humidity anywhere from 70-85, I also utilize humidifiers to achieve this when need be.

I feed .25 inch crix, moths, wax worms, mantids, roach nymphs, house flies, and WC insects. Brevs are eating machines. I feed adults every other day and babies/juves every day. I supplement once a month with a vitamin and maybe 2-3 times a month with calcium/D3 for the adults.
