Breeding Rhamphiophis oxyrhynchus rostratus...

philodryas Oct 11, 2005 04:50 PM

Has anyone sucessfully breed Rhamphiophis oxyrhynchus rostratus? I keep a adult pair that is working great and i wonder if anyone could tell me if there is anything in particular that i shall think of while trying to breed them? such as temperature changes, hours of light and so on.....As they come from the hotter parts of Africa i suppose they won't need any major temperature changes...or am i wrong?

Cheers, Ronny

You might look into what the light cycle is like in their habitat during rainy season. Duplicate that, & mist them.

Nice looking snake. ~~Greg~~

first of all thats a beautiful western beaked snake you have there in the pic, beaked snakes breed during the rainy season,as do most african colubrids, use a strobe light close by to their enclosure and constantly mist them for a few days before you introduce them to each other to stimulate them to think it is the rainy season, they do not need to be cooled, only stimulated to think it is the rainy season.
