What if Male grabs her tail while mating?

seboba17 Oct 11, 2005 07:17 PM

My pair have been exhibiting breeding behavior. I've seen the male grab the female a couple times. However, would a female drop her tail if a male grabbed it? I've seen him do it and I wasn't sure if it was okay.

Also, whats a good breeding weight for stub tails? 32, 33 g?

stub cresteds should weigh above 31.5 grams. the tail can weigh up to 10% of the total weight of the crested. which would mean 10% of a 35 gram crested would be 3.5 grams.
as far as tail biting, it's going to happen when you put two animals together most of the time, so there's nothing you can really do about it. you could end up with nipped tail tips, dropped tails, scars, or absolutely nothing at all. honestly, i've had more females bite off other females tails, than i have had females drop tails during copulation.
