Has anyone used those little ceramic bowls from Petland, Petco for holding mealies???

jack7777766 Jul 20, 2003 09:43 PM

I was wondering Im using deli cups that I cut to put the mealies that I put in my leo's cages. I put about three days worth of mealies with food for the mealies in. Now none of them can climb out of those delicups I cut.
I was hoping to add a little more flavor with those cheap ceramic ones, they sell at most stores, I know the sides are glazed which helps in not letting the mealies climb, but I was wondering if any of you guys have used them for anything like this and if the mealies are able to climb out or not.

Here is a link to them

I was wondering about the Kritterz Ceramic Dishes & the Kritterz Rock Dishes.

Thanks Jack

I don't use them for mealies, but they work nice as cacium/vitamin dishes. I used them for mealworms for a little while, and a few still managed to get away. They are nice little dishes though, and they are easy to clean.

I use those bowls... they are kidney shaped right? They are great- effective and easy to clean. I believe that there are 3 sizes- small, medium and large. I've been using the small one for mealworms. To answer your question- yes, they can get out, occasionally. If you are feeding big sized mealies, I would say on average 1 in every 10 mealies escapes, little mealies cannot escape. If you are concerned about them escaping, I would use the medium sized bowls, they are deeper... I'm thinking about switching to these. Hope this helps.

I use the ceramic dishes for the mealies and the rock dishes for water. The mealies will climb out of the rock dishes. The ceramic dishes should be used for larger animals that can climb up and see in. I find the babys usually cant see in to know there's something there unless I put something for them to climb on right next to the dish to get them up higher.

Good luck
