Moist hide concern......

icedearthgoddess Oct 12, 2005 12:20 AM

My girl has been moved into her new cage (which I will have pics available soon!) and she has explored it and seems to know her way around the cage very nicely. However my concern is that she has been in the moist hide for two days... I took her out to feed and check on her, and it doesn't look like she is getting ready to shed... my concern/question is there any harm with her being in the moist hide too much? Will she develop any kind of respiratory infection or anything? I would think the leos would know when to be in it and when not to...right? Would she be in it because it is a different type of hide? Maybe she feels safer in it? Should I get a second hide of the same kind and keep that a dry hide? Am I just being the "too over protective" mother? Please let me know what you all think. Thanks!
P.S. Sorry about all the questions...

The moist hide represents what would be a damp burrow in the wild. They hide out most of the day. Mine stays in her moist hide every day. When she wants to be somewhere drier or cooler, she comes out and hangs around on the rocks. Geckos know what temp they want and how much humidity. Don't worry. You should have a digital thermometer though. Those stick on ones aren't very accurate. Also, the thermometer should be nearer the bottom of the tank.

All of mine spend 90% of their time in their humid hides. I have never had any problems, respitory or other. When u have the funds, I would agree that youshould use a different kind of thermometer. I have used the strip, and the little stick on dial kind, and they aren't acurate. I use one of those inferred heat gun things, but I have it already for my beardie. They run about thirty dollars, but you can pick up one that has a probe, at radio shack and places like that for about ten to twelve dollars. I would post on here and ask what is the best thermometer to use. Hope this helps.
