Female Retic Eating Problem

herperdude Oct 12, 2005 12:59 AM

Hello I purchased a pair of hatchling tiger retics on 4/19/05 they are both healthly and very well kept. My female however has always been a picky eater and I would like for her to grow at a slightly faster pace than the male. With out sacraficeing his meals.(I skip him every 5th feeding already) Some days she will eat, some days she will just not be interested. My male however would never miss a meal. Is their any way I could develop her feeding response? Is there something I am doing wrong? I keep their cage settings as recomended by NERD, somtimes they will spill some water and raise their humidity levels, but only for a moment. I feed them 1 large rat every five days and have a detailed feeding record starting from their first meal if this would be of any help. He is a few inches over 7' and she is 6.5' /- a couple inches. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love her so much and I get so worried when she does this I know retics are usaly very strong feeders.

Thanks so much,
Justin

P.S. I will be getting a digi camera here in a few days so I will be sure to have picks of both of my babies up asap!

Are you sure you have'nt mistaken which is male and which is female? You may want to sex them again. Usually females eat with gusto and males can be picky. Ron.

I will re-probe them to be double sure, and let you know what I find out. If that is the case I will be very happy but still worrie when she/he decides not to eat for 15 days. I will also have to switch their names around

Thanks, any more help on increasing appitite?

Do you have them in the same cage? In your initial post it kind of sounded like it...

If they are, separate them. It will make for much safer feedings and will undoubtedly lower their stress levels, thus potentially leading to a better appetite.

Just keep at it and see what happens. I have had a couple girls start off rather slow. Overnight it seems, something clicked inside of them and they went food-crazy.

Just give them some time.
