About a month ago, a freind of mine took in about 11 leopard geckos from someone who totally neglected them. The guy had all of them in a 20 long for about 6 months. Almost all of them were in rough shape. I ended up getting the worst 2 out of the group.
These geckos are about a year old, and super skinny. You can see all their bones, their hips jut out, and their tales are about the width of a cotton swab. Its really disheartening to see them this way, so I was determined to do anything I could for them.
I've only been tending to geckos for about a year myself, so I've gained much knowledge from internet forums and so on...
Anyways, I started feeding them a baby food/calcium/water mix for a couple weeks since they would not even take to food. Whatever food they did eat, they would regurgitate. Eventually they would eat waxworms here and there, but crickets were too fast for them. They didn't seem to have the energy. For a week or so, I just fed them waxworms and pumped them up with pedialyte. It was all they would take to.
The past couple nights, I've been filling a bowl for each of them with mealies, and last night I noticed that all of them were eaten. I filled them again this morning, and when I returned this evening, I noticed again that they had eaten everything. I gave them each a dropper full of pedialyte, and dropped 2 crix in each of their cages. They immidiately chowed them!!
I know its not the end of their struggle, but its the biggest step they've taken since I've had them. They are still very thin, and I have a vet appointment next week to do a fecal. I'm just happy that there is progress, and I have my hopes up now. I'll post some pix before and after so long as they make it through ok....until then, I'll keep on doing what I can....sorry its kinda long...just wanted to share
