Take a look at http://finegtps.com/cageplans.htm
You will get a lot of ideas on their web site. I just went to Lowes and had them cut me a sheet of mdf into the width and height I wanted (4 x 2 ft). I coated each piece with with frp (also from Lowes) and used the frp glue to glue that down. I attached the sides, top, and bottom with drywall screws and used 1/4 plywood for the back and tacked that on with paneling nails. I got some 3 inch round soffitt vents (where the shingles are kept) and put them in the back wall using Gorilla glue. For the front, I just took the whole thing to the glass shop and they installed the track and sliding glass doors. It is fun to make your own, but if price is a consideration, you might consider several of the businesses. I see Constrictors Northwest has a nice cage for $250 shipped. I also like Boaphile plastics.

Arbreptiles.com along with finegtps.com mentioned previously both have some good ideas. Ultimately, though, you'll likely end up modifying something for your particular needs.

Remember, a cage in most circumstances is a box with a door. How that box is built with and what it is built with is up to you. Do you want a cage that is light, a cage that is a nice as possible, or a cage that is simply as cheap as possible?

Nothing wrong with any of those extremes provided the needs of the animal are met. It's when you try to combine light, nice and cheap that you run into trouble.

Let us know what you're looking for and we can help steer you in the right direction.

budgets about $300-$500. i want it to last a long time so i dont mind shelling out that much. as long as its escape proof and its going to keep my pet snake happy.
