female wd not eating & growing weak/lethargic - help please

shortydsm Jul 20, 2003 10:32 PM

My 1yr old wd has not eaten in about one & a half weeks now, maybe longer. Lately she has been totally weak & out of it, barely moves. I don't know why all of a sudden this is happening but I don't want her to die. She is housed with a male wd of the same size & age, though he doesn'T bully her around phsyically. The husbandry is fine, water is cleaned regularly... someone have any ideas?

It SOUNDS like parasites, but I'm not entirely sure, one thing you will want to do, is quranteen her, and take her to a vet ASAP!

check her for signs of egg binding. Usually they mature in two to three years, but if they mature early, they are likely to become egg bound.

She quit eating for about a week or two. No more room I guess. One day she started digging in the plant. That is when we knew she was laying eggs. Does she appear to have eggs? She may be getting ready to lay. Keep a close eye on her to make sure she is not egg bound. Good luck
