What the hell is up with Georgia???

rpelaez Oct 12, 2005 09:21 PM

A friend of mine in the armed forces has landed a permanent duty station in Georgia. He’s a long time herper. Apparently, Georgia protects all native non-venomous snakes and lizards (from collection or possession), but does not protect its venomous snakes or amphibians. I hope I got it right. Can anyone explain the rationale for the non-venomous/venomous bifurcation in the law? Thanks.

Here's the sad truth. Substract all federal and state endangered/threatened species too.

I live in Georgia and you guys are absolutely right. The DNR here dont seem to care about anything but money, its nearly 300 dollars to simply apply for an """"exotic"""" reptile license. There was a guy at this sporting goods store who had a huge wild caught timber rattler being treated like immortal [bleep] and when I reeported him, I was told that they could not do a damn thing about it. I would really like to address Georgia's reptile rules and regs in large numbers but there just are not enough people out there who give a damn!
