50 Gallon Tank Heating

rkjohnson2 Oct 13, 2005 12:36 PM

So I'm thinking about getting a 50 Gallon tank for two Rankins Dragons, and am wondering about the wattage of bulb, and number of lights needed to maintain correct temperature. I'm not looking for a definitive answer, since I know it will vary based on room temperature, but any rough estimates would be great.

Thanks.

How about buying a bulb with a higher wattage than you think you need, and then having it set up with a dimmer control so that you can manually adjust the temperature hear round when temperatures cheange.

One basking/spot light shold do just fine. If you are not using a MVB then you will need a second UBV light strip--it will also supply additional 'light' and brighten the tank.

I use one 100W spot bulb and a long UVB strip light in each of my 75 gallon tanks and the temps are fine...our house temp is pretty stable (around 70-75F). If your temps drop a lot inside during winter months you may need to add an additional ceramic heat emitter for night heat.
