here is a photo of my dart frog style(false bottom)planted vivarium i recently built from scratch(even cut the glass).im currently housing a high blue sorong greentree python.everything is going well,it features a waterfall,fogger,3 species of live moss floor, and several species of tropical plants and 2 species of palm tree(sago and ponytail)i handle cleaning by manually removing the feces with papertowel.i chose a very short haired, dense species of moss for the floor so removing the feces would be easy.anything left over i just pour water over and it is washed into the substrate where it is used as plant fertilizer or eventually washes into the false bottom where it is drained out.since he only defecates once a month, this is not a problem.anyway,i recently have noticed some pests that must have come in through the plants or soil.the first are fungus gnats and the second are these very tiny(i guess mite like bugs)that i see sometimes crawling on the dead wood accents.im assuming these are wood mites and dont think they are a problem.i also now have this spiderweb looking covering that is now covering almost all the moss on the floor and is now creaping up the walls.i think its a type of fungus and id like to get rid of it as i think it will eventually kill my plants.any ideas on how to rid my cage of fungus gnats and this spiderweb looking fungus?? heres some photos

to get rid of the gnats all openings of the cage need to be covered with a fine mesh cloth or something else with holes small enough to keep them out. They easily get through the typical sized alluminum screen. The white bugs are wood mites and should not be a problem. Reptile mites are either black or red. The only way that I know of th get rid of the fungus without useing chemicals is to provide some sort of ventilation. I have had tanks with ultra-sonic humidifiers in the past that would develop the same spider web-like fungus that you seem to be describing. I got a computer exhaust fan and placed it at one side. I hooket it up to a timer so it would flush out all the fog about every 2-3 minutes. Just keeping the the air moveing should help with most mold or fungus problems.
