.....you also win the second Extra BIG Congrats of the season for the accomplishment of another rare Rainbow litter.
....This is either the second or the third captive born litter of Campina Grande Rainbow Boas, Epicrates cenchria asissi outside of South America.
....I thought I was going to be busy putting them into their own cages but a couple still have some yolk to absorb so I am leaving them alone for awhile. When I found this litter they had apparently all just been laid. They had not broken out of their membranes yet. I broke their heads through the membranes and they all emerged and started breathing.
....This litter of five looks like the litter that was born 10 days ago. Some have short striping on the tops of their necks. Some have strong large crescents on the sides. Just like with the last litter, mom wanted to see what was going on with the camera. This subspecies really does have lots of personality.

Those little gals/guys look so much like Brazilians. They are pretty amazing. That pic of the striped neck stretched way out of the membrane is fantastic. Priceless pic. Awesome accomplishment.
Linda,
...They really are marked a lot like Brazilians. They are not as brightly colored as the Brazilians and they usually have stripes on either side of the neck. The litter that was born on the third all shed today. I shot a couple PICs of them.
This first one looks like a BRB with minimal crescents and not too much of the striping on the sides of the neck.

The next two have really good crescents. They also have the typical asissi striping on the sides of the neck and slightly abberant striping on the tops of their necks.

This third one had just eaten a pinky rat.

....and oh my god, those are awesome! Like Linda said, that is a great accomplishment. Great pics...beautiful babies.....I could go on.....Congrats!

Nice job Jeff. The personality of those animals really comes through in the photos. I'm curious, are they as defensive as other baby rainbows?
As for Florida, the crocs have three major breeding areas and animals will migrate in and out of these areas. My job was to assist in the data collection and release of hatchlings for a mark and recapture study. As far as I know, there is no solid estimate as to whether the population is increasing, decreasing or staying the same.
Mike
Mike,
....All but one of these babies are totally relaxed. One is a little edgy but does not bite. I have never seen baby Rainbows that were so mellow from the start.
