official results of the tempermant and handling poll...

UAWPrez Oct 13, 2005 11:29 PM

Well, actually the jury is still out, I've been told both Green Tree Pythons and Amazon Tree Boas and have varying tempermants. But it is offical, the folks in this forum room are much more friendly and helpful then in the Boa forum room. In fact the only person that answered in the "other" room is a friendly person from THIS room. But right now if I had to choose, I'd get a sorang or however that was spelled GTP. I have a weakness for pythons anyway.
Thanks for the info.

I have yet to run in to a calm amazon tree boa. Out of my collection i only have 1 animal i can not handle with my hands.

I rarely ever handle my chondros, maybe once a month if that. They are the calmest snakes i have ever kept hands down.

The temperment of the parents seem to matter more in this species rather than "locality" phenotype.

Sorongs are great, that's the locale I plan on picking up next.

As for ATBs...do you feel lucky? lol. If you get one young enough, and work with it you can make it handleable. I've seen it done, so I know it's possible. If you don't have the time to work with it, pick up a nice red/orange phase, and make a nice display tank for it.

yea,im not a big fan of amazons, and one of the reasons(besides their kinda bland color)is their temperment.i have heard stories that someone has one that they can handle,i dont think they are lying, but considering my experience,i just have a hard time picturing one of them being calm.i have owned 2,seen countless others in person, and every one i saw would basically strike at the glass if you came near, let alone attempt to pick him up.now as far as my bland color statement,i do know that occasionally youll see a nice bright yellow or red one but they are quite rare.in chondros,i can almost guarantee that youll have a nice bright red or yellow in every clutch!besides that, amazons just look a bit too thin and long for my taste, but to each his own.
