i'm pretty new to the species myself but i'm doing alright with a plactic tub...it seems to give them a little more privacy and nothing holds humidity like those tubs...lots of hiding and burrowing is also real important, whatever they do they're really up to no good and they seem to prefer we don't know about it...from what i gather supplemental lighting seems to be of negligible value...also if anyone else has any input, how do these guys feel about climbing? b/c i'm thinking about going with something a little taller (not at the expense of ground space) after seeing a few pics of them in trees.

My croc skink and my leopard gecko have the same kind of cage. The same furniture, the same temp (cold side around 80F, warm side around 90F), the same food (gut loaded mealworms), the same wet sponge cave, etc.The only difference is that my leo gecko has a small bowl of water and my croc skink has a large bowl of water almost 50% the size of the cage.
I have been raising both for almost 3 years now, without any health issues.

Croc skinks are not nocturnal, they do need some sunlight at least in the early morning or in the early evening. But they dont like bright lights so i dont recommend 12 hours of UVB lights. If you can put his cage near a window where he could get some unfiltered sun light every day or during the week ends will be perfect.Or only 1 hour a day of UVB lights will be great too i think. My croc is the first one of my family to wake up in the early morning and when i look at him he is completely alert, like a sentry, on the highest place of his cage looking at the sun through the window. At 9am he goes back to sleep! At 5PM he does the same thing again!
