Froglets drowning?

jleahl Oct 14, 2005 01:32 PM

I have tadpoles of grey tree frogs and narrow-mouthed toads; the GTF are metamorphing now. I have been removing the froglets that are out of the water and putting them in a container with a very shallow bit of water on the bottom, and lots of leaves and sticks for them to climb on. Some of the froglets get out of the water and climb on the glass just fine, but a couple have died in the water (in the tadpole tank). Their necks and chins looked very swollen and bloated. I rescued a couple yesterday with the same look, that were floating around the tank; so far they're still making it. Should I remove the froglets from the tadpole tank as soon as they have front legs?

To clarify...there are things for them to climb out onto in the tadpole tank...an inverted pot, a log leaning on the pot, and a plant sitting on top of the pot. They mostly like to sit in the plant.
