Make sure you figure out what kind of albino you want to acquire. There are three different strains (tremper, bell, and rainwater(rainwaters are also referred to as Las Vegas)) and they are genetically incompatible. So, if you want to produce albinos, you need to make sure that you're breeders are the smae strain. If they are not, you'll produce normals that are het for each.

do you have so pic. couse i'm not sure the store just called it a albino leopard gecko.

What store did you get it at (Petco sells almost exclusively Trempers)? Each strain of albino can be quite variable in appearance. It would be a good idea, to try o get some pics of yours and post them. You may get have one that's easy to identify. Most of the petstore albinos are Trempers, the other two strains, however, do occaisionally show up in petstores too. That's one of the benefits of buying from a breeder rather than a pet store, you know what you're getting . Do some searches on the three strains and look at lots of pictures, this will help you recognize them.

Another thing, since you are into acquiring more, is to make sure you quarentine. When I was starting out, I learned this the hard way. Whenever you get a new leo (it doesn't matter how good the source was) quarentine it for at least 30 days, but 90 days is MUCH better. Quarentining means setting it up in its own enclosure and making sure it doesn't have any contact with your other leos. This means washing your hands after touching your new leo or anything in its cage before touching your other leos or the feeders and not offering any food items that it has refused to your other leos or putting uneaten feeders back in the communal food supply. Many leos can be sick with things like parasites and not show symptoms right away. By practicing strict quarentine procedures, you can prevent your healthy leos from getting infected. Loose runny or excessively smelly poos, regurgitation, or anorexia, are all symptomatic of problems. It's much easier / cheaper to treat one leo, and in the case of certain infections, such as crypto, there really aren't many treatment options. If you're purchasing from a petstore, look at all the leos, if any appear too thin, or the poos don't look good, or you see signs of regurges, don't buy even if the leo you want looks healthy.

Good luck,
Alice

But if you are trying to start a "small breeding business" for fast cash or the glitz and glamour of it all. Breeding leopard geckos, and any animal really, should only be done because of the absolute love and admiration of the animal. Do not get into these animals thinking that you are going to make a million dollars. It's nothing like that. Most of us who have bred for a few years (or the others who have bred for years upon years) barely make enough money to cover costs of feeders, vet checks, and enough to invest in a few extra geckos a year.

Also, research research research! Read as money books and caresheets as you possibly can BEFORE you get the animals. Or, if you already have the animals, tat means you need to step-it-up and read and learn as much as you can. Make sure you have the basics covered first. Just KEEP the geckos for the first year to see if you actually like having them before you breed. Don't get into it and lose interest within the first month. It's unfair to you for the fact that you had invested a lot of time and money, and it's unfair to the animals because the constant travel and movement and stress.

Use common sense. Ask questions and learn. Don't get attitudes with people who are just trying to help you.

AND TO THE PEOPLE HELPING: We were all young and newbies at one time. Get some patience. Help the people who ask for it. Isn't that why this forum was created? To help share ideas and information? I understand if he had an attitude and such, but take it with a grain of salt.

I'd like to add that it is hard to sell regular geckos. If your just starting out and have no reputation and get off on a bad start with a forum its fairly hard to sell all your geckos. Keep in mind that you may have these babies for a year and you need to be able to have the space and money to feed them and buy all the adequate housing for each.
