I've been trying to get in touch with him as well. He sent me some tapes quite q while back and I wanted to mail them back and I lost his address. Plus he was moving anyway. Maybe he hasn't settled in yet and/or doesn't have internet yet?

IAN! WHERE ARE YOU!! - LOL!

hey bill, i was just talking to him the other day and he recently moved into an apartment. Thus, he had to part with several of his animals and all of his turtles. He's still out herping though! anyway, if you have his college email address you can reach him through that.

haha, don't worry, just because he's in an apartment doesn't mean he still doesn't go herping! he's just too busy to post pics right now

Well, I emailed him yesterday at that email address, hopefully he'll get back to me.

Whenever he gets a house, we'll have to send him some turtles - LOL!

hey guys, thanks for asking about me. i don't get on the internet that much compared to what i did in the past. i am still getting out and about as much as i can, however. i've been out to the desert box area quite a bit this summer. seen several large sonoran gophersnakes out there, lots of texas horned lizards, and other various and sundry lizards. even managed to almost get charged by an oryx out there. hahaha. things were slow, until the first decent rain in late june. i was out there the morning after that first rain, and in less than 45 minutes i think i scored something like 12 or so luteolas. most i had seen before, but a few were new ones. one evening, 2 days after a really heavy rain, i went out there to see if i could find any females digging nests, as conditions were optimal. only encountered a couple of turtles. the first turtle encountered was a gravid female, out soaking in a puddle that had formed in the tire ruts in the dirt road. i wanted to keep an eye on her in case she was going to dig a nest. i periodically came back to that spot and she finally left her puddle and started roaming around. she ended up trying to dig in a partially formed burrow, but the ground was probably too hard, and she gave up before dark, at which point i lost track of her. between my checking on her, i was walking around looking for more. i found an area of mounded up dirt that i was pretty sure was a luteola nesting. yup, i eventually saw the head of the turtle and part of the carapace, no mistaking that turtle, it is the large female out there who i call bad@ss. this is the 3rd summer ive seen her, and the past 2 summers she has been gravid, but i never saw where she laid. now i know where her nest is. incidentally yesterday i went out there briefly and fairly close to where she nested, i found a depredated luteola nest. damn. her nest is still fine, however. also today along the rio grande in las cruces i found a depredated softshell turtle nest. also saw a large softshell basking on a mud flat in the river not far away. so thats a little bit of news from luteola territory.
