Finally the BIG DAY

Danny Conner Oct 14, 2005 07:23 PM

After being gravid for what seemed like about 3 years my green dropped 15 big beautiful babies on Oct. 10th.
Equally as good today she ate (2 ) 5lb rabbits. (She was really thin)
This was her first clutch. And my first experience with green babies. They're HUGE!
The smallest is 230 grams(1).
The biggest 280 grams(3).
The average being 260.
My scale is NOT state of the art so...
Mom is about 13-14 feet and before she was gravid maybe a 110 lbs.
I'll take pics but I don't know how to put them on this site. If my wife can figure it out...
If not I know she could email them and someone else could post them.
If anyone is really that interested.
Both parents are docile a few babies have struck at me but noone has really bit... YET!
Nothing like the yellows I bred for some years.

You have already listed some data in your post, and I am hoping you can help me with some other reproductive data on your litter. I have been collecting information on green anaconda reproduction in captivity for many years. Specifically, I am interested in copulation dates and possible dates you may have observed ovulation, and any shedding dates while she was gravid. Additionally, were there any stillborn young or unfertilized ova deposited. Any other information you might have that you feel could be applicable would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help with this,

Kelly

You're the reason I bothered to post this at all. Also why I bought my scale (albeit a very cheap one).
Unfortunately my record keeping has gone out the window the last 2 years. I have a mobile reptile show and I travel all over the country. I use to document everything meals sheds copulation but now I travel so much...
There were'nt any stillborns or unfertilized ova.
However there was an 8 hour period which she was'nt observed so it is possible she ate them. She was very thin.
I wish I could be more helpful I know it seemed as though she were gravid forever.
I won't let her breed this year and we'll see about next if so I'll make a point to document stuff.
How about those weights are they normal? I've bred yellows, columbians, burms, retics and rocks and these guys just seem huge to them.
Shed I want to say maybe a month ago but again...

Danny,
Those weights are quite common for newborn greens. The weights for all of our young fall right into that same range. I have never seen a female eat stillborns, but almost all female greens will eat unfertilized ova. Sounds like she did really well for a first litter. Thanks again for the information.
