Is the same cage you were asking about in the thread below?
How large do you want it to be?
What do you want it to look like?
You listed a pretty impressive budget so I'm guessing you have some specific things you want from this cage. Otherwise, I assume you'd just buy one for the money you listed in that thread.
I want to build one myself. there's nothing like having that feeling of you've done something with your own hands. what i want to know is, whats a good cage size for a full grown ball python? whats the best materials to use if im going to build one.
I would go ahead and built it the typical 4' x 2' x 2'.
Regarding best materials, that's an open ended question. It depends on whether you want a finished wood look, a painted color look, or like the simplicity of a light weight plastic cage.
Each of those options has more than one answer.
what's a good material to use with glass?
i'm thinking of having at least 2 to 3 sides of the cage made of glass.
should i still have a sliding screen top?
or should i just make the top glass, and put in sliding glass for the front?
how about the bottom side of the cage? if i'm going to use an UTH, is there any other option besides glass for the bottom?
or should i just stick with a light bulb for heating?
i live down in monterey so i dont have problems with humidity. its between 50% to 80% most of the time. i just have a red lamp and a backup UTH (if i need it).
>>what's a good material to use with glass?
I have seen people make wooden frames with glass inserts that have looked fantastic. I would consider that.
>>should i still have a sliding screen top?
I do not like top opening cages. I prefer front opening. I think sliding bypass doors look the best since they give the cage front an open look.
>>how about the bottom side of the cage? if i'm going to use an UTH, is there any other option besides glass for the bottom?
Expanded PVC for the floor is very durable and conducts heat well.
>>or should i just stick with a light bulb for heating?
Since this is a high end project I'd go with the ultimate heating setup for a BP... a Radiant Heat Panel from Pro Products.
