what roaches to feed phatasticus

insular_exotics Oct 14, 2005 09:39 PM

I have 3.4 satanics that have been doing well on dusted 1/4-1/2 crickets. I would like to increase diversity of foods offered and cut cost. SO I am looking into roaches as food. Just curious what others' experices are in terms of:

Will your satanics eat roaches?

What are their favorite species and sizes?

Thanks

i just recently started breeding lobsters, but have yet to feed them to anyone. but i would use them at about the same sizes as the crickets i feed them, and use the bigger ones as breeders.

I use lobster roach nymphs for my phantasticus pair. The down side to this roach species is that they climb glass and are fast, the plus is quick breeding and a variety of sizes through development. With a tight fitting lid you should be ok. This is the only species of roach I use for all my Uros: Henkeli, Pietschmanni, Sikorae, Phantasticus. Sometimes they can take a while to transition over from crickets if that is what they are used to. Good luck.

I have orange spots and orange heads. Neither species climbs or flies. Both species went over VERY well with my geckos, but I'm still trying to get my colony set up, so I've only fed a few here and there. You just pick out the ones that are the appropriate size for your geckos, and anything bigger than that gets to stick around as a breeder.

I keep mine on coconut fiber, and just run my fingers through the substrate to pick out a few. I might try a strainer in the future when I finally get my cultures going.
