Hey there KS people. I'm thrilled to announce that I have been blessed with some additions (not births) to the Florida room family. These have come from the same Pierson most of you are familiar with from his posts on this forum. They were'nt free, in fact they cost Pierson a fair amount out of his pocket to get them to me. These where circumstances beyond my control but not his so he took the initiative without my knowing and got the little ones to me safe, sound and expeditiously. And they are ...
a pair of gorgeous (cinnamon sticks) mangrove salt marsh snakes, orange phase. These are the most petite baby nerodia I've ever seen. By (day 2) they had gulped down 25 very tiny minnows between the two of them. Next, a pair of gulf salt marsh snakes, striped classics! (I feel a Crocodile Hunter Steve coming on) Crikey, These are a gnarly pair of beauties! They put away 4 modest size minnows each as well. Of course, they where matched by the pair of florida greens which, though being smaller, speckled and a little confused (2 weeks old) still managed to keep up one for one! Meanwhile, the young adult, more experienced sipedon that travelled with them showed them how it's done by polishing off his six fish as the others struggled with their first! Not bad fishing for the northern since Pierson has had him feeding on pinkies already! All in all, a very satisfying day.
It's been exhausting since their arrival. I've checked their escape proof cages a hundred times to make sure, you know, that they're escape proof. I will endeavor to post some photos as soon as I can.
Michael
