who has done this pairing?

gothpython Oct 14, 2005 11:39 PM

i just picked up my new vpi pastel male earlier today. thanks a whole bunch to those at amazon reptiles. this guy is doing great. but i've been raising a nice wc female for the last couple years. she's an unproven classic jungle that i'll be pairing up with my pastel next year. is there anyone else out there that has tried this pairing? i can't wait to see the results between a pastel jungle and a classic jungle. here are some pics of both of them. first pic is my classic jungle, then both together followed by the pastel alone.

Classic Jungle is just a fancy name for normal. A normal to pastel will provide 50% pastel and 50% normal (classic jungle). Usually when you refer to a normal female as unproven it means she has never been bred. Almost eveyone breeds pastel to normal, as pastel to pastel would be 50% pastel, 50% super pastel.

Anyhow, its still a fun project! Hope all goes well for you!

well i was refering to a classic jungle just like the one in the snake keeper's collection or in graziani's collection. the reason why i stated classic jungle is because the classic jungle morph is still an unproven morph. which now i'm starting to think that i should have stated that instead of just unproven female. but we'll see what happens when i pair up the two next year. but for now. for me, there is a difference between normals and classic jungles. but that's just me and the research of done. best of luck to everyone on this coming season.

codom genetics work like recessive het genetics in a punnet square, the hets being visible.

Pastel x Pastel would yield eggs with:
a 25% chance of being superpastels
a 50% chance of being pastels
a 25% chance of being normal

pastel x normal= pastel and normal offspring
pastel x pastel= pastels, super and normal offspring
ect....ect...
but with all these new mutations poping up this year. can't a guy dream of proving out a mutation that's been around for years.

I am thinking on getting the female from Amazon. I am concerned of pairing her with the other 2 lines I currently have.

What did you hatch out this year?

hello there. this year i had 5.2 normals hatch out from a 100% het vpi x normal pairing. only thing now is getting them to eat. lol. but i don't think there'll be a problem crossing your two lines. you'll just end up with supers from 2 lines crossed together. lol. but how about you. what did you hatch out this year?

Zippo, nada, nil.......

Thought the big girl was gonna make it....she just got fat, lazy and teased me. I am hoping to have all the pastels going and a few normals too....

Yeah, I hope that classic jungle proves out some day too. However the female in your pic doesn't look anything but normal. The classic jungle mutation is pretty drastic in color and pattern and really can't be confused with a normal. That is not a classic jungle.
