crested burrowing??

WanderingLost Oct 15, 2005 12:02 AM

hey guys
In all the research i have done, and the experiance i have had with the my first crested, I have never noticed a crested bury itself. the other day, however, I bought myself a new crested, and today I noticed she had completely buried herself in the substrate. Why would she do this? I have not read anything about it before, and I am concerned she may be ill. Is this common among cresteds, Please help.

I use paper towel for substrate and mine likes to crawl under it during the day.

Yes, some cresteds will burrow into or go under substrate to hide or sleep. If this is a new addition, it is most likely still adjusting. I would not worry unless other signs of illness are evident. Good luck with your new crested and enjoy.

I am not sure of her exact age, as I got her from a pet store.. you know how that goes... she was, however, in a tank with three male cresteds, so it is possible that she could be pregnant. I don't see any signs of having eggs though. It would be cool if she was pregnant.. free babies right :-D.

Honestly I don't know how old she is. I got her from a Petco and they didn't know. That is why I typically like to buy from breeders at shows, because they can give you a little more background. She is pretty big so I am guessing at LEAST 8 months if not older. I will look for eggs.
