have you thought about day geckos, anolis species, treefrogs, maybe even tokays, it might be a little small for them tho. you can handle any of those, they are neat to watch tho. banana (golden) geckos are a lot of fun to watch and we have one that we hand fed baby food for months and brought her back from near death, she is actually ok with some holding but you cant restrain them or their skin will tear. i was actually told that most bite but neither of mine ever have. on the other hand, tokays can and WILL bite. same with anolis equestris equestris(cuban knight anole)but you would need a larger cage for a knight. umm...what am i missing? you could try leopard geckos but the height would be a waste. if you are interested in geckos you should try going to a herp show and you can get some gorgeous animals. i have a huge tank with geckos anoles and treefrogs that is just awesome to watch. as long as you dont mind not holding them i think that would be the best idea. or, finally you could could get a young animal that you could switch to bigger cage as it gets older, hope that made sense. but it seemed like you were looking for a permanent resident. hope this helps.
