yet another cycling question lol

iceyesnteeth Oct 15, 2005 11:20 AM

ok so like i said,im currently cycling my sorong who is just over 2 years(25 months i think).maybe some of you guys remember me talking about the fact that one of my other snakes had shed a sperm plug 2 months in a row and i was surprised because he was only 16 months old.anyway, its currently becoming a problem housing him seperate from the snake im currently cycling and i need to move him back into the same room.im wondering what you guys thought of cycling him along with my current mature male and maybe see what happens??i could just crank up the heat in his cage and that would solve it if i decided to but cycling in my house is not easy and i figure if im already doing it to one,its just as easy to do it to another.plus it would give me a backup male just in case my first choice is acting gay or something.a second question is in regards to cycling times.i know how long to cycle him but what im unsure about his how long the "normal",pre cycle temps need to be maintained constant before switching to the cycling temps.about a month ago my son decided to smash my helix and i was rel;ying on watching a glass, wall mounted thermometer and adjusting the temps accordingly for about 3 weeks untill i bought a new helix.i was able to keep the temps within a good range but they were far from consistant(day and night)the temps would range from 75-almost 90 sometimes, depending on how carefully i was watching.anyway, that was about a month ago and it has been steady ever since.is this long enough of a time of steady temps to begin cycling?

You might want to post this in the Morelia Viridis Forum, as theres not many breeders who look at this forum. You'll get a much more accurate and mature response this way.

You can cycle and animal regardless of age (far as I know) long as you don't breed it if it's not ready. Ball pythons tend to cycle themselves regardless of age. If you follow the same rules as for the one you're planning to breed, and just don't breed that one, it should be fine. Only downside, is he'll fall behind in his development and it may take a little work to get him up to breeding size for next year if you need him.
