Hi, I just did a cleaning today and shot my 1:1 thermo gun at the surface of my hottest basking spot from 1' away and got readings between 104-105 degrees at the surface.

Should I lower the light (infrared lamp)? I assume that when she lays under the lamp its hitting her a bit warmer since her back and head would be several inches above the surface. Right now the 250 watt lamp is suspended about 3.5 feet above the surface.

What do you think?

In my opinion a 104-105 Degree temp is about ideal. It could go a little lower, but I personally wouldnt jump it any higher than that.

Thanks Chris,

I thought I read that they should have a high-end gradient of 115-120 degrees? I was just thinking that the top surface of the animal is quite a bit higher than the actual surface and in turn becomes the new surface that is closer to the heat source.
