Elaphe Frenata?

MillionPoundBomb Oct 15, 2005 01:29 PM

For the life of me, I cannot remember the common name for this snake. I saw one at the Vivarium in Berkeley, under the name Asian
Rain Snake. Is that it's common name? At first glance, I thought it was in the Gonyosoma complex, but then I saw Elaphe Frenata. Pictures would be appreciated. Thanks.

Rein Snake, not Rain Snake is what I've seen.

Friend of mine just got a couple of them. I have not called him to see how he likes them.

I have seen them listed as Gonyosoma but don't believe it was widely accepted.

That was it. Rein Snake. Very beautiful. I would like to know how your friend likes them when you find out. Thanks.

He has not picked them up yet but may trade them to me.

I have never seen one in person. How do they compare to Rhyhchophis boulengeri, Elaphe prasina, and Gonyosoma oxycephala?

It was thin, much like Rhyhchophis boulengeri. The color, at least of this specimen, was neon green like Elaphe prasina. Thinking more about it they bear no resemblence to any Gonyosoma. I could see it as an arboreal snake based on its structure, but who knows. I studied it for few moments then it crept under its hidebox. Truely an interesting and mysterious snake. I hope you accquire some, I bet they would make awesome display animals.

I have seen them in person, were some adult wc. I saw them only for a few but they really gave me the impression of miniature oxycephala: at such fast impression they have same head, same body structure, same colours, same eyes and same scales.
