Flexwatt Wiring Question

CJBianco Oct 15, 2005 07:47 PM

I am wiring my new Cornsnake rack tomorrow afternoon. (This is a simple stud and plywood rack.) I plan on running 3" Flexwatt and would like a second opinion on the wiring method.

Could I just drill a screw straight down into the heat tape? (This would avoid stripping the plastic for a soldered connection.) Would the connection be good?

Thanks In Advance,
Chris

Although the link answer you question I believe IMO that stripping and soldering is a better choice. One it is defently is a better electrical connection and two with the screw method disassembly may be required to remove a faulty piece of heat tape. Its not perfect it does sometimes go bad! Either way you still need to insulate the ends, its your choice.

Thanks for the reply! Yes. The solder is definitely a better connection. I was mainly curious about the screw and ring terminal being a good solid connection. (Despite not being as good as a solder connection.) And I don't really mind the extra work involved with changing faulty heat tape. After all, it's only two screws. And it may be faster than scraping and resoldering. Who knows?

Thanks again!
