Hey guys.

I was wondering if anyone could, those with vast collections included, could take pictures of male and female tails next to each other? I would really like to see what the fuss is all about with the comparison of the tails and spurs and what not.

You all rock! Thanks!

For balls there is no real difference between tails and spur sizes in the males and females.

I want to really just see it for myself...

I trust you, Tosha, but with all these (although admittedly outdated) books and internet sites out there, I can't believe that there is really no difference...

Spur size, tail thickness, and anal pore to tail ratio? Nothing at all is the difference?

Well I had a really hard time getting them to cooperate and totally struck out with getting them to cooperate together. Also I tried to match up opposite sexes of the same size and found I don't have many of those either. Anyway - I did the best I could I have a crappy camera - maybe when my hubby gets home later I can get him to help.

Just remember that there are females with big spurs, males with small spurs, thick tailed females, thick tailed males, you might find that males have a higher tendancy towards something like a long tail but that females can also have long tails. Therefore the theory would be an unreliable way to visually sex them. Anyway hope this helps.

dont worry about the tails! You'll end up trying to get some females fat for breeding and end up with some fat males this season!

Out of 40 females I ended up with 4 males! That all had smaller spurs than my females!

You didn't pop them or probe them? How did that end up happening?

I bought 16 females in one deal with a known breeder here, bought 10 more in another deal with someone else. Ended up with some males in the mix once I got everything sexed.

dont worry about the tails, probe.......

I would send pics but I only have one ball python right now. There is a picture of both sex's tails in the ball python manual.
