Identification?

lisakc Oct 15, 2005 08:39 PM

Hi,

Can someone help me ID this baby snake? I'm almost positive it's a little milk snake or a little king snake. It's 6-8 inches long. I live in NE Tennessee and found him this afternoon. The pics are a little blurry but I think you can see them OK. One pic shows the markings on top, the other shows his belly.

Thanks,

Lisa

Considering the NE TN locale and the band number and depth it would be ID'd to the Eastern SSP.. The fact that is does have a full collar is an obvious Red milk influence.....The truth is the ssp NAME isnt important, but the locale is. Milks from that area are EXTREMELY variable in color and pattern as it is the confluence of 3 different SSP....To argue its one or another would be pointless.J

A old buddy and I had a successful hunt on this day....We kept the nicest pair and let the rest go.Wish the pic would have shown the variation within this one site on this one day.....maybe some people would be more understanding as far as ssp. delineation, lol.Jeff

Come on,trade secrets? Half the fun of finding snakes is learning HOW to find them. Now you know its possible, study hard and spend alot of time in the field and that will be its own reward! Seriously,Jeff
