I would like to know what is the most widely used size of flexwatt heat tape that is being used in ballpython racks. This is the best place to get the answers I need. I thank you in advance for your answers.

I use 12 inch on by adult ball racks and 3 inch on hatchling racks.

It depends on the application. If I'm putting the heat underneath the tubs on the shelf, I use the 3" tape. If I'm putting the tape down the back of the Rack, I use the 12" tape.

While not all of the heat tape I sell is for balls, I do sell more 3" than the 11". I would say about 1.5 to 1 maybe even 2 to 1. I would also agree, if using it for back heat you about have to go with the 11" but for most baby or growout tub applications the 3" is the ticket. On the real big tubs (cb70's, etc) 11" is the likely choice to spread out the heat a bit more.

Rich -

Just a question - do you think you sell more 3" because 3" is usually snaked through many racks and thus takes more than just laying a sheet on a shelf? I couldn't beleive how many feet I had to buy to snake it through my little hatchling rack!!! LOL

I expect that is part of it. You can usually use an extra 5 feet "snaking" it because of the height of the shelves. You are also adding additional wattage by doing that. Usually the wattage isnt an issue but it can sneak up on you if you are running multiple racks on one thermostat.

Less wattage and wider for better distribution........
just my 2 cents.
