All of you put up some wonderful picture's! I just got my first collared lizard. ANd what a sweetheart!!! And I need to learn how to post picture's.
Question thou; do all male collared's have blue/green, and yellow on them?? If they are about 8 month's old with very little color, will they get more color as the get older?
We just got him for my B'day, Mom ordered him and we had thought he was more blue. Will say even if he don't change we love him so much! He come's to our hand's every time.
Oh another question; if they wag their tail when you are holding them, does that mean they are happy, or board?
Anyway any addvice for a new owner would be wonderful. I do love all your picture's!!!!!!

To get his picture posted, you need to upload the photo to your computer and save it in a folder that you can find later. Then go to the photo gallery on kingsnake and select "Upload Photos." Use the browse button to find the folder where you saved your picture, give it a title, and upload it to the website. You can save your pictures under a general folder on kingsnake, or you can create your own personal folder to keep all your pictures together.

Not all collareds, even males, will have blue green and/or yellow on them. There is such a variety it'd be hard to list all the colors I've seen. Typically, they do brighten or change with age, so your boy may look quite different a year from now.

The tail wagging is a hard one. I'm not sure why they do it, but I don't think happiness and boredom are in their repertoire. I believe they are just holding their tails stiff (and still), and your movement is what makes it swing back and forth like it's wagging.

not all males get the bright colors but even on the more "brown" males it is still fun to see what hints of colors show up. however, i have always concidered walter to be brown but yesterday when a friend was holding my lizard, and not knowing anything about collareds, he said oh look at the turquoise on him, LOL.
i also think that sometimes they use their tails to get a feeling for what is behind them. like they roll their tail across the surface of whatever is there. it cracks me up to watch them do it

Also , there are so m,any color variations, and some females can also be bluish/ yellowy so on.

As far as the tail, LOL I see them do it alot as they are sneaking up on a cricket, just relaxing, all sorts of different circumstances, all I know is it looks pretty...

We only see 'tail wagging' on our C.Lizards just before they are about to jump or run. Ours 'wag' when we put crickets in the vivarium.

We think that this behaviour is similar to cats who 'snake' their tails just before pouncing.

Presumably, a fast uncurling tail will give them a three point lift-off instead of only using their back legs.

So, in answer to your question, IMHO it means 'I want to get out of here!'.

Hint: A happy lizard is a warm lizard who will fall asleep (at least one eye!) on your hand. Fast breathing normally indicates a stressed lizard.

I have found this forum very informative and the people friendly.

Your new lizard might not have all the colors you were expecting, but the amazing variety of collareds along with their spots makes each one to me like a work of art.

My first lizard Ezra was about your lizard's age a little over a year ago. He developed some more blue with time and lost some yellow, but out of my collared lizards he is the tamest, friendliest and most inquisitive.

It's so interesting to watch their behaviour. Ezra likes to walk around with his tail curled up in the air. I've seen them wiggle their tails in small "S" patterns when they notice some movement. I think it's like a lure.

I also get to see Ezra run on his hind legs when the grass in our lawn gets pretty tall. He's the only one I trust not to run away from me outside, he's still supervised very closely.

I can't wait to see your lizard photos.
