Last spring I rescued a Melanistic Eastern for my Brother-in-laws yard. You would never have guessed this was a WC Hog. She let me pick her right up, never hissed, never ran, nothing. VERY docile. The only time she gets spooked is if I put another hoggie in her enclousure. The she completely freaks out in major death thros. After 5 months, the only time I have heard her hiss, was when I had her close to my face and was talking to loud. If I quiet down, then all is well. I have now noticed that if there is something in her cage she doesn't like, for example forceps, she will make her entire body "jerk", and then just stare at the object. If it gets closer another jerk. No sound, just a jerk. Has anyone else experienced this kind of behavior in an Eastern?

Another curious question: Anybody know the mortality rate of Hognose clutches in the wild? Especially Eastern.

Thanks

here are pics of the hog in question
