Large lump on coastal

cactuskent Oct 16, 2005 05:07 PM

Yesterday I purchased an adult 7foot male coastal carpet off a local breeder. It has a lump on it's side (about 2 1/2 feet from head) the lump itself is approximately just over an inch in length and 1/2 inch protuding. It's quite soft and squishy and doesn't appear to have the snake in any discomfort. It's healthy, tame, and feeding fine. The man (whom is very honest) explained he'd not had the snake long at all himself (I'm assuming a week or less) and the previous owner explained he took the python to the vets when it formed who said it had physically hurt itself (banged itself or something similar) and the blood had raised to form a swelling (or some kind of bruise) which should go down in time. I intend on taking him for a second opinion this week to the vets, but was just wondering if anyone has any ideas or an opinion on this? I'm sorry I can't get any pics.

thanks

Go to the vet!! I've seen some big abcess/burns on pythons, but this seems to be something different. I don't buy the physical bump thing....

thanks. Like I said I'm off to the vets anyway this week, only it was weekend and there's no reptile friendly vets for miles around (that are open on weekends) so I thought I'd try and do a little research before hand.

I'll keep posted.
