HELP !!! Daughter left freezer open! Pinkies OK?

wpglaeser Oct 16, 2005 05:54 PM

We were all at the Reptile show (got a Jalisco Milksnake and a Grey-Banded Kingsnake), except my daughter.

When we pulled into the garage, the freezer door was open. Upon inquiring, she said only 10 minutes, but I think maybe longer. My pinkie mice were starting to thaw. I had most of them "Foodsaver'ed", but you could see the blood/juices running. The other few I had separated were similarly soft-ish.

QUESTION: If I let them refreeze, and then thaw as needed, will they still keep and be safe, or do I have to pitch them all now? They never left the freezer (there was cold air blowing over the paper bag they were in) but they're definitely partially thawed.

Thanks!

Walt

I think they'll be okay. In the wild I've seen snakes eat two or three day old road kill, it shouldn't be a problem.
