Sick lizard - Something's sticking out of his cloaca

Knormal Oct 16, 2005 07:22 PM

When I woke up this morning I noticed my lizard had something sticking out of his cloaca. It's a moist pink thing, about the size of a large pea. It doesn't seem to be bothering him too much, he's running around normally and when I dabbed the thing with some toilet paper to try to figure out what it was it didn't seem to hurt him, but it doesn't look very benign to me. The only change in his behavior I've noticed is that he hasn't seemed very interested in eating the last few days. Any advice?

I can post a picture, if it would help.

My advice is to get your lizard to the vet in the morning. The outcome will be much better if you get this treated quickly.

Here are a couple of link to some previous threads about this problem:

If this is a hemipenal prolaspe,

You can soak him in cool sugar water, then keep the area mositened with KY-Jelly , do not allow that area to dry out.

You will want to keep him on paper towels or a towel, something clean, no dirt , no sand , wood chips nothing like that.

Call your Vet asap. I had a chuckwalla with a prolaspe, so I do know those things are a MUST !

I moved him onto some moist paper towels for the night and am making sure he has plenty of water to drink, if he wants it. I have an appointment tomorrow morning for the vet, hopefully that'll be soon enough.
