Some holdbacks from 2005

RussBates Oct 16, 2005 08:04 PM

Whew...thought I'd never get those cages cleaned!

Here are two thayeri I've decided to hold back as future breeders. These guys are awesome they tackle pinks with enthusiasm! You've got to love that in thayeri.

The clutch I mentioned in my previous post has just started to eat....some are on there 3rd feeding. The bad news is it is male heavy. All the real lookers in the clutch are males Although this is not necessarily a bad thing....a great looking male can service many a girl

Enjoy.

That is clearly a snake to keep. I'm not a big fan of teh reduced black - in most cases. On that snake it works great. Congrats.

thanks Mark, I'm pretty fond of them. I now have a pretty fair balance of yellow and orange represented in my collection. Now if I could just get a female melanistic

a male melanistic? I've been thinking about getting a pair of the blackies too. I know Mike K. and a couple of others have melanistics but no one seems to have a pair.

BTW that yellow is quite a looker. The snake looks great but what's that odd looking background in the pic????

.....Chris and Russ....Don't you think it is best to breed a pair of thayeri that both carry the melanistic trait?
I do....I want to be able to produce MSPs, Leonis and Melanistics all in the same clutch...You know, adding another variable to an already variable gene flow...Producing a whole clutch of black thayeri would be neat, but not that appealing to me.

BTW.....Just got a pair from Mike Kochvar (mexicanamak). They were from his white leonis and a melanistic mate....I guess they are het for melanistic......One is a MSP and one is a leonis......I guess I will find out in a few years if I can produce melanistics, MSPs and leonis all in one clutch.....Sounds fun to me.

Also.....Good to see you back and well Russ. I am sure everyone appreciated the work you and your men did. And...great looking keepers man....

I really think I would prefer to have a pair of melanistic just to produce melanistic babies (if possible). I've yet to see if a pair of melanistics will produce only melanistic babies?????

BTW John tanks fer backin me up on the KS forum LOL

You may be right.....you have plenty other breeders to produce nice MSPs and Leonis offspring.....
I would love to produce awesome orange leonis, yellow MSPs and black thayeri in one clutch....But that would take a few generations of work....

OH....and you are welcome....I hate the way Mexicana get a bad wrap as being nonfeeders or bad starter snakes.....My second snake ever was an alterna. My second clutch of eggs was from the alterna.....
They even make good beginner snakes in my opinion, but some are hard to get feeding.

NOTHING beats Thayeri !!!!!

Ya as soon as I read the first couple of posts I knew I was gonna throw in my 2 cents worth. I guess all you have to do is look @ all of the other sub-forums and you can tell which ones (one) has the most enthusiasum. (spelling)!!!!

yup I have only a lone male that is a year out from being breeder ready. I will probably try breeding it to the yellow line just to see what happens but I'm betting I get a bunch of muts. I got to tell you the black one I have is a small version of the Indigo....very beautiful...yet simply black

I've heard of guys in past years breeding black to black and not getting any blacks.....not to sure what's up with that.

As for the branch from my Sago Palm in the picture........give me a break....It was a poor attempt to create some color contrast Not all of us enjoy that desert life

This past week I cleaned house and put the remaining bulk of my corn snake collection out on loan to my buddy in San Diego. The only corns I have left are lavender bloodred hets 2.2....that will produce in 2006.

Later,
Russ
