Yellow belly... ish? LOL

CrittersMailToo Oct 16, 2005 09:30 PM

Started reading on the markers and characteristics of a yellow belly and now I'm wondering if my female fits them. We have a pretty low quality camera, but hopefully you can see what you need to see on it. The color is off on the camera, even outside, she looked a little bit more yellow than the rest of her actually is. Couldn't capture the absolute yellow on her sides, but assuming it's there, here's the rest.

She has the flames on both sides of the body all the way up and down, starting at the head with the definite yellow on her sides; it's not cream, or dull.. it's a clear yellow. She has a light spot on her head in the faded brown area, the belly itself is a more or a cream color than white, and the speckling.. well, that's the only part I'm not too sure of, so let me know what you think. Just let me know nicely.. lol

Not to sure myself although if I was to hazard a guess I would say no. Check out the hunter's guide below and check for yourself.

I have been, for a week. That's what made me ask. She has all the traits as far as I can tell, just asking about the speckling..

Not a yellow belly sorry way to many people gettin there hopes up out there but your snake lacks thte big tell tail marks and belly patterns. Good luck breed her out could turn into somthing better, just trying to keep your hopes up.

No reason to say sorry, I am perfectly happy with her as a normal, never intended to breed her. But what marks is she missing? That's what I'm trying to understand on the speckling.

The belly edges on yours are pretty much the normal big marks that meander in on the belly. With the yellow belly the dark is broken up into smaller marks and lined up straight at the edge of a fairly wide white belly (very nearly all three belly scales across white).

That's the first time I've seen anyone explain the 3-scale wide section; that's all I needed. Even in the pictures I've looked at it's never quite clear, because in many of the examples the dark runs down into the belly.. but I do see what you're talking about now, and I really appreciate you taking the time to answer.
