Alligator eats rubber

Spotismygator Oct 17, 2005 08:52 AM

I had a filter at the bottom of my gators enclosure, and I think he may have dug down and uprooted it. There were suction cups at the bottom of the filter, and I think he ate them. The suction cups were small--do you think he will be able to pass them?

Thanks,
Matt

How big is your alligator? and how big are the cups?

They eat a lot of stuff that wouldn't be considered food. Mine ate a raquetball one time and I didn't know it till I found it floating in her trough. I had a 60 lb alligator snapper that ate and passed a rubber drain stopper that was about an inch and a half in diameter. An alligator that was shot a few years back for eating dogs had 7 or 8 collars/identification tags in it's gut, including one electronic one used for tracking (that's how they found the gator). I had a African spur tortoise that ate nine cubic inches of styrofoam, it all passed.
