Mellers.

Where are all the Melleri owners out there? Share some photos of your little boys and girls and their enclosures. Their names, age, sex.

And welcome me to the club!

If you haven't already found it, there is a very good melleri forum on Yahoo!Groups. There are also links to husbandry and issues specific to melleri, photos, babies, etc. from there. There is an associated website called the Melleri Discovery that is well worth reading. The site was having some problems last week but should be fixed now. Welcome!

Yes! I have checked the Melleri Discovery Site, Brandy Snow was telling me about it, so of course I had to see it. And it is awesome! I don't think I know of any other single species that has a worldwide, multi-lingual website about soly, the one species of chameleon.

Right now mine isn't eating the giant Silkworms I have for him. He is eating crickets though, and he is staying hydrated well. He is incredibly friendly, he lets me put a spray bottle right to his lips so I can dribble it in his mouth without stressing too much. I find it hard to beleive this amiable character is a wild reptile who was just flown on an airplane from Africa, not more than 5 days ago!

I'm really interested in seeing others who have them. I bet incubating Melleri eggs would just about kill someone because of the long wait!

Suprosingly the incubation on Meller's eggs is a very short incubation. All of ours that we have hatched (both c.h. from gravid W/C females and c.b.b. from captive breedings) have hatched at 3 months.

Yes, I've read that melleri carry the eggs longer than other species so they are laid at a later stage of development (visibly vascularized) and incubation is short 3-4 months.

Some melleri are like that...just nice from day one. My big rescue female I had a few years ago was. I was ready to watch her go into decline and develop health problems after the "90 days", but she never did. She was approachable, almost social, and lived for years. But, in contrast the rescue male I took a year later was just the opposite. He was incredibly shy, stressy, always bordering on infections and dehydration. He had been poorly treated though, so no big surprise. I kept him going, but I doubt he was ever really comfortable as he had huge tissue losses from an undiagnosed burn or a necrotic tissue disease. BTW, I knew their sexes because of breeding and courting behaviors.

Yes, I bought this one because He was in a 2' square 1" thick glass tank. It was dry and only had ONE branch. It was gross, it just constantly walked and banged into corners.

I got him on sunday, but I bet that the other one I left there because I couldnt afford him is dead.

This is Obi and he came from Kristina's infamous litter. He is hands down the calmest, coolest, and most collected little Chameleon I've ever seen.

And here he is enjoying his daily shower...it's all about hydration.
