Cleaning Cage with Hydrogen Peroxide???

yasin1 Oct 18, 2005 02:48 AM

Hey Guys,

I had a question. Cleaning my cages with a bleach solution became almost impossible as all of my snakes got big and are in 50 gallon glass cages. (To get rid of the bleach I have to clean my cages in my bathtub with lots and lots of water)

Do you think instead of using bleach can I spray the cages with H2O2 and then spray with water and dry them? Will H2O2 residue (assuming there is a residue) harm the animals at all? Did any of you try this before?

Just a thought...

Thanks
Yasin

This article (in the link below) may be of interest to you; however, I am doubtful if this mixture kills all pathogens--See the previous posts about disinfectants

Of course, see previous discussions on disinfectants. For bigger cages where thorough rinsing is difficult, use the diluted chlorhexadine. H202 is of questionable ability, and might get costly after a while. Alternative would be vinegar (evaporates). Both would be okay for regular cleaning, but stronger disinfectants would be needed for such processes as quarantine.

Thanks guys.

I found a place who sells H2O2 for 1.45$. I guess I can manage to buy as much as I need at that price.

Ofcourse I am not sure if it will kill all the germs.
