I've heard from several sources that these units are dangerous malfunctional junk. Who knows? I personally use the Big Apple Herp Power Proportional Thermostat (more than one) and I love it.

Don't waste your money. I bought one and gave it a few tests before deciding to return it. For example, I set the temperature on it to 90, taped the temp probe directly to the piece of heat tape it was controlling and it did not turn off until the heat tape reached about 115 degrees. So needless to say it is not a very acurate way to control temps and you could end up nuking your snakes. I would go with a helix or some other proportional t-stat.

I've read a little about them. Anyone use them and approve???

I have several currently in use, along with some Johnsons and Helix. They all work great for racks. I use Helix for incubation.

I also use Ranco's and Helix's. I used a Ranco on my incubator this last season with 100% hatch rate. I think they both have advantages and disadvantages. I dislike the short length of cord for the probe on the helix's, but I like the fact that the helix is proportional and the ability to add an automatic temp drop to it. I dislike the "clicking" sound that the Ranco's make when they turn the power on and off, but I like their reliability and cost. If helix's were a little cheaper and had a longer probe cord, they'd be PERFECT in my book.

I had about the same luck with 2 from BAH. When they work you get reasonable accuracy for the small price tag, but they dont always work. I would save up and go with the helix. But it also depends.. what type of heating do you use?
