can a tokay gecko take down a hopper? I have seen them take pinkies and fuzzies easily, but will they be able to eat a live hopper? thanks

A good sized adult probably could, but why? Rodents aren't a necessary part of a Tokays diet.

i certainly wouldn't try feeding a tokay a hopper, i wouldn't suggest anything larger than a rat pup, or a barely fuzzy mouse.
Usually Tokays are feed Pinkies (safe size) in breeding season to add Calcuim to bloodstream for developing eggs. Males can take fuzzies sometimes hoppers but I recommend against such a large meal. Also note that there is more Calcuim levels in pinkies (bone cartilage) than larger mice. Rat pups/pinkies I would only recommend to at least a 12" Tokay, swallowing may be difficult for other sized Tokays and there maybe an issue with blocking intestinal passage through digestive process.
Have you tried Silkworms are an alternative food?
One more note: if you are concerned with Calcuim absortion then use Bone-Aid. This has worked wonders for me during breeding season with many gecko species of which all eggs had great calcuification.
